LakeRidge Baptist Church began as Southwest Baptist Church back in the seventies as a result of the foresight of the Central Baptist Church, which was located in downtown Lubbock. The foresight and vision enabled that congregation to purchase ten acres on Eighty-second Street, which was just a two-lane road on the extreme south side of the city.
At first, a ready-built house was placed on the acreage and services were conducted in that house until a larger facility could be completed. Some referred to that initial building in its remote setting as the "Little House on the Prairie." Ultimately a suitable educational building and sanctuary were constructed for the teaching of the Bible and for worship.
